My Great Grandfather made many albums for both friends and family, pasting portraits next to buildings next to gravestones next to landscapes. Some photos were pasted into the album twice, on different pages, for unknown reasons. And some photos of drawings (of Napoleon, for instance) may indicate a special significance to the recipient of the gift album.
The catalog reflects the construction of the album. Image number A-25-3 is from album A, page 25, photo number 3. I photographed every image in the order it appeared in the album.
Some photos of individuals are next to other photos, possibly linking them. For example, an individual portrait may be next to a photo of a gravestone. My assumption is - the gravestone may identify the individual. Over time, information from visitors to these pages may eventually prove or disprove this idea.
